The perfect cover-up
Screens are one of the most delightfully useful accessories for your home. Not only can they be used for the obvious (to shield anything unbecoming from sight), but they also add texture, color and pattern to a room, in unsuspecting ways. (headboard, anyone?)
Vintage Henredon Silk Screen, $395. 83.5"h x approximately 98"w. Located at Hunt & Gather.
Fran Keenan used an upholstered screen to add a focal point in her Birmingham, Alabama living room. Mounting a screen to the wall, as she did, is a unique (and often more affordable) alternative to artwork. (Image: Cottage Living 2007)
Ashley Stark uses a gorgeous Chinoiserie screen to add pattern and detail to her beautiful dressing room. Perhaps the screen is also hiding a not-so-glamorous architectural element of the room as well? (Image, Domino, March 2007).
Fiona Weeks used an upholstered screen with nail head trim to add height and interest to the corner of her living room on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Often corners are difficult areas to address, but a beautiful screen can add just the right amount of detail. (Image: Southern Accents 2007)
Screens make great headboards, offering commanding height and originality, whether used with another headboard (as seen above, by T. Keller Donovan) or alone. (Image: Southern Accents)
